For visitors looking to explore the central North Island of New Zealand then The Point Lodge is the perfect touring base being within 2 hours drive of the major attractions such as Rotorua, Taupo, Coromandel, White Island, Mount Maunganui, Tauranga and even Hobbiton.

Tuapiro point reserve For personal adventure in the outdoors we can offer you hiking, mountain biking and kayaking. Popular with our active guests is to kayak round the harbour and to Matakana Island. Sailing and fishing trips can be arranged. Local walks range from a few leisurely minutes to a full day tramp through the nearby forest park with huge Kauri trees and waterfalls.

Only 30 minutes drive from The Point lodge is the city of Tauranga and Mt. Maunganui. The city is a lively centre for culture and entertainment with the Strand being the focus for bars and cafe life. The port has the highest tonnage of any NZ port, while the Maunganui surf beach attracts crowds of young people over the summer months.

Tauranga offers a wide range of city styled shopping and a wide range of restaurants. It is also the location of our domestic airport.

COROMANDEL - gold mining - beaches - Kauri trees - seafood

regional tour map A favourite drive for guests is to travel up the west coast of the Coromandel Peninsular and then back via the eastern side route. The drive takes about 5 hours with very enjoyable stops along the way. Cathedral Cove and Hot Water beach are popular stopping places, along with the cheese factory at Matatoki who produce organic sheep cheese. Coromandel


GEO-THERMAL WONDERLAND - Whakatane - White Island

regional tour map White Island offers a unique experience of being able to walk on the crater floor of a live volcano. Our guests usually drive down to Whakatane and take either the White Island Tours boat trip of 75 minute to the island, or the more expensive but very exciting helicopter flight which lands you right on the crater floor. The main thermal attractions are Hells Gate Rotorua & Wai Ora Spa, Whakarewarewa Geothermal Area and Maori village, and south of Rotorua Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland, Waimangu Volcanic Valley and Orakei Korako Cave & Thermal Park.

Anne & Kerry know the region and will organise your day tour to say Waitomo Caves or Taupo or Tongariro and Mt. Ruapehu. Those wanting to do flights on Mountain Air over the Central Volcanic Plateau get special treatment - Kerry's brother owns the scenic airline! If you wish to overnight at the Chateau Tongariro we will organise your accommodation.
